Arena Policies
  • Alcohol: No alcohol may be brought into HP Pavilion at San Jose, nor consumed in any of the HP Pavilion at San Jose parking lots. Violators will be cited by San Jose Police and are subject to significant fines. HP Pavilion at San Jose reserves the right to evict an underage guest who is observed to be drinking alcohol or to any guest who appears to be intoxicated. HP Pavilion at San Jose also reserves the right to deny entrance to an intoxicated guest.
  • Alcohol Sales at Concerts and Other Events: All alcohol sales will cease after intermission or at management discretion.
  • Alcohol Sales at Sharks Games: Alcoholic beverages are sold until there are ten minutes left on the game clock in the third period, with the exception of three bars in the Comerica Bank Club. The Comerica Bank Club bars continue to serve until 30 minutes after the end of the game. This policy is subject to change based on management discretion.
  • Animals: We permit no animals in HP Pavilion at San Jose other than animals that are certified “Working Dogs” and are in service to assist disabled guests. Service dogs “in-training” are not allowed in HP Pavilion at San Jose.
  • Behavior: Active cheering and enthusiasm is encouraged. However, individual conduct must be bound by law and the rights of others to enjoy the event. Guest behavior cannot be unreasonable so as to offend others or be unreasonably abusive to players, officials or performers. Guests using foul language or appearing intoxicated are subject to eviction. HP Pavilion at San Jose staff reserves the right to evict guests whose behavior seriously affects the ability of others to enjoy the event. Please notify the usher immediately if any such problem occurs. Evicted guests will not receive a refund for their tickets or be compensated in any way.
  • Camera and Audio/Video Recorders: The use of still cameras (film or digital) and video & audio recorders is regulated by the promoter of each event. In many cases, the camera policy is not finalized until the day of the event and is subject to change. In most cases for concerts, all cameras are prohibited. Still cameras (film or digital) are permitted for Sharks games and other professional or amateur sporting events, as long as the lens does not exceed six inches in length. Video cameras are rarely permitted. When cameras are prohibited, guests are encouraged to take them back to their car or check them in at the entrances. Tri-pods or single-pods are also not permitted at any event held at HP Pavilion at San Jose, as they can cause a tripping hazard in the event of an evacuation.
  • Fan Courtesy at Sharks Games: In order not to block the view of other guests at Sharks games, guests are asked to be a courteous fan by waiting for the next whistle before going to or leaving their seats. In addition, guests are asked to not lean forward in their seats so as not to block the view of guests seating behind them.
  • Guest Food: Guests may bring in reasonable amounts of food and non-alcoholic beverages for their own personal consumption at most events.
  • Laser Pens: Any type of laser pen or pointer is prohibited at HP Pavilion at San Jose. Any such device is dangerous to both other guests and to event performers. Any guest found carrying such an object is subject to eviction from the building as well as confiscation of the object.
  • NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball:  Specific for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament food and beverage of any kind are not permitted.  Additionally, noisemakers of any kind are not allowed into the building.  This includes megaphones.  Handheld signs are allowed at HP Pavilion at San Jose as long as they are no larger than poster size (20”x30”), do not impair the view of other guests and do not contain vulgar, political, offensive or graphic content.  Banners and Flags of any size are not allowed into the building. Dry erase boards and signs attached to sticks or poles are not permitted. Still cameras (film or digital) are permitted, as long as the lens does not exceed six inches in length. Video Cameras are not permitted during the Thursday, March 18th and Saturday, March 20th game sessions, but are allowed during the open practice session on Wednesday, March 17th.  All large bags are prohibited.   Lap Tops are permitted but are subject to a thorough search.  All guests, regardless of age, are required to have a ticket for admission.
  • Noise-making Devices: No extraneous noise-making devices are permitted inside HP Pavilion at San Jose. These items include, but are not limited to, horns, whistles, air horns, cymbals, cow bells and bugles.
  • Prohibited Items: Cans, glass bottles, thermos-type containers, hard-sided coolers, balloons, laser pens, masks, noisemakers such as air horns, flowers and gifts attended for a performing artist are not allowed in HP Pavilion at San Jose. If the guest cannot dispose of prohibited items or return them to his/her vehicle, the guest can check in their items and pick them up when leaving. Guests, including law enforcement personnel not working in an official capacity, are prohibited from bringing weapons into HP Pavilion at San Jose. Weapons may not be checked in and include, but are not limited to, firearms, explosives, handcuffs, batons, stun guns, knives, tear gas and pepper spray.   • Re-Entry: HP Pavilion at San Jose has a general “no re-entry” policy during all events. Should a guest of the arena have an emergency or a legitimate purpose to exit and re-enter the building, the guest may obtain proper authorization and have their ticket scanned out. As a rule, only one guest per group is allowed to exit and re-enter.
  • Security Checks: HP Pavilion at San Jose conducts visual and bag security checks at every event. Higher levels of security checks including pat-downs, hand-wanding and the use of metal detectors are done at the discretion of management for other events. All large bags, large backpacks and suitcases will not be permitted in the building. Baby bags are permitted, but baby strollers and baby carriers are not permitted. HP Pavilion at San Jose offers the service of checking in baby strollers and carriers at all events.
  • Signs and Banners: Handheld signs are allowed at HP Pavilion at San Jose as long as they are no larger than poster size (20”x30”), do not impair the view of other guests and do not contain vulgar, offensive or graphic content. Banners may be of larger size and may only be hung so as not to damage any HP Pavilion at San Jose surfaces and not block any HP Pavilion at San Jose advertising. No sign or banner may be of a commercial nature. Dry erase boards and signs attached to sticks or poles are not permitted. This policy is subject to change based on management discretion.
  • Smoking: HP Pavilion at San Jose is a smoke-free facility and smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the building, including restrooms. Designated smoking areas are provided outside HP Pavilion at San Jose entrances and exits. The HP Pavilion at San Jose smoking policy conforms to California law which prohibits smoking within 20 feet of entrances, exits and operable windows of any building. Smoking marijuana is not permitted.
  • Tailgating: Tailgating in the HP Pavilion at San Jose parking lots is prohibited per San Jose City Ordinance. Violators will be cited and fined for having an open BBQ flame or open container of alcohol.
  • Throwing objects: For the safety of all, a guest who throws any object into the stands or onto the playing surface or stage will be evicted from HP Pavilion at San Jose. The only exception to this policy is when, during a hockey game, a player scores a "hat trick" (three goals in a game). In this case, throwing of hats is customary and is deemed appropriate (hats cannot be returned).
  • Ticket Reselling: The resale of tickets (“scalping”) is against the law per San Jose City Ordinance 6.54.200 and is not permitted in and around HP Pavilion at San Jose. Violators are subject to fine and confiscation of goods and cash. Tickets may not be resold for any amount, including below face value.
  • Trespassing: Anyone trespassing on the playing surface at games will be evicted and subject to arrest and prosecution in accordance with local ordinances.
